Lesson Plans

The following lesson plans are offerred to post-secondary education instructors who teach courses in the field of refugees and forced migration studies. These lesson plans are being offerred and shared by college and university instructors who have used these assignments in their courses and found them to be highly interesting, interactive, focussed on student centred learning, and engaging for their students and that also have contributed to their students’ deep learning on refugee and forced migration matters related to their course content.

We welcome your comments and suggestions or your own contribution to the materials offerred on our Lesson Plans page. If you have an assignment, exercise, simulation, or case study, etc., that you think other post-secondary instructors and students might be able to benefit from and you would like to share it on our Lesson Plans page, please submit it to the following email address, rfmsot@gmail.com.

Experiential Education Research Assignments

The following attachments are for an Experiential Education Research Assignment that has been used by a number of instructors at different universities over a number of years. Instructors have reported that the students have found this assignment to be highly engaging. It provides their students with an opportunity to contribute to an ongoing research project that is helping to build the content for a refugee and forced migration website that can be used by students, instructors, researchers, practitioners, advocates, refugees, and the general public at large. It is an Experiential Education (EE) assignment because it provides students with an opportunity to contribute to the development of our Online Research and Teaching Tools (ORTT) website, while at the same time, students are learning the essentials of refugee and forced migration studies and practice.

We very much look forward to you using this EE assignment and providing your students with an opportunity to contribute to the development of our ORTT&PF website. Please also see our information posters that are found on our Promotional Materials page.

If you have any questions or would like to report on your experience with using this assignment, please contact either Idil Atak, idil.atak@ryerson.ca, and/or James C. Simeon, jcsimeon@yorku.ca.
