Definition

Process of reorienting the direction and shape of politics to the degree that the EC (European Community) political and economic dynamics become part of the organizational logic of national politics and policy-making.
Robert LADRECH, “The Europeanization of domestic politics and institutions : the case of France”, (1994) 32 Journal of Common Market Studies 69, 69.

Processes of construction, diffusion and institutionalization of formal and informal rules, procedures, policy paradigms, styles, ‘ways of doing things’ and shared beliefs and norms which are first defined and consolidated in the making of EU policy and politics and then incorporated in the logic of domestic discourse, identities, political structures and public policies.
Claudio RADAELLI, “Whither Europeanization: Concept stretching and substantive change”, (2000) 8 European Integration online Papers 4.

We see a scope for a perspective less interested in ‘domestic effects’ and more interested in the European Union as a system of processing change. In this last perspective, Europeanization is all about understanding how national systems pool sovereignty and adapt to each other. […] As one of the classic questions of European integration was ‘what is the nature of Europe once states have decided to pool sovereignty’, one may well pose the question ‘what are we learning about the changing nature of Europe as a result of Europeanization studies?
Kevin FEATHERSTONE et Claudio RADAELLI, “A conversant research agenda”, in Kevin FEATHERSTONE et Claudio RADAELLI (ed.), The Politics of Europeanization, Oxford, Oxford University Press, 2003, 341.

While the notion that ‘Europeanization matters’ is commonplace in contemporary debates about migration and asylum, little has been said about how the EU’s specific institutional and policy content might actually affect politics and policy in member states and non-member states.

Migration, asylum and the politics of European integration”, dans Thomas FAIST et Andreas ETTE (dir.), The Europeanization of national policies and politics of immigration. Between autonomy and the EU, New York, Palgrave Mac Millan, 2007, p. 49, à la page 49.
